The 2011 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) has kicked off the automotive calendar in traditional style in Detroit. North America's biggest auto show may have lost some of its sparkle of late, but this, its 23rd year promises to deliver a whole raft of new production and concept cars. Of course, the Big Three will capture many of the headlines with world debuts from GM, Ford and Chrysler appearing in the halls of the Cobo Center. However, the Asian and European carmakers are also unveiling a plethora of new products.

This year's highlights include the Mini Paceman concept; the new BMW 6 Series; Volkswagen's US-specific Passat model; the revised Chysler 300C; the newly-designed fourth generation A6; the Hyundai Veloster and Curb concept; the KV7 concept from Kia; a Prius wagon from Toyota; and Porsche, who again has a presence in Detroit after a four year absence, showed a hardtop variant of the 918 hybrid.

We will soon have in-depth design reviews and extensive photo galleries to keep you up to date with this year's hottest design stories
